Our Approach
At Just Checking In, our goal is to help your loved one feel safe, seen, and connected — while giving you peace of mind and bringing a little extra joy to their day. Our mission is to bridge the gap between seniors and their families, ensuring that both feel connected and reassured. We take pride in offering a service that prioritizes relationships and emotional wellness over medical needs, making every interaction special and heartfelt.
During each front porch check-in, your assigned Companion will visit your loved one at their residence, bring along a favorite coffee or tea, provide a friendly wellness observation, and record a meaningful “Question of the Week” video designed to preserve memories, stories, laughter, and personality over time. Families receive a personalized keepsake video after each visit, offering both a treasured memory and a visual check-in for added reassurance. A wellness update is also provided following every visit. All check-ins are conducted outside of the home on the doorstep or front porch. We recommend placing two chairs outside your loved one’s door to create a comfortable space for sitting, chatting, and enjoying each visit together.
Our team is made up of compassionate local community members, many of whom are parents and caregivers themselves. Every Companion completes an extensive background check and is introduced to your loved one through a video call prior to their first visit, helping ensure comfort, familiarity, and trust from the very beginning. Families can choose from a variety of membership options and visit frequencies based on their loved one’s needs.
Addressing 3 Growing Needs
Companionship
At Just Checking In, we offer meaningful companionship check-ins designed to help older adults feel connected, valued, and seen. Our trained companions provide a warm presence, friendly conversation, and genuine human connection through regular visits that bring comfort and something to look forward to each week.
Loneliness and isolation among older adults is a growing issue, especially for seniors living alone or far from family. Even small moments of connection and conversation can make a meaningful impact on emotional well-being and overall quality of life. Our goal is to create uplifting moments of connection while giving families peace of mind that their loved one is being regularly checked in on and cared about.
Wellness Observations
Our wellness observations are designed to help keep families informed about their loved one’s overall well-being, comfort, and happiness. During each visit, companions conduct a friendly check-in while observing general wellness indicators such as mood, alertness, mobility, appearance, responsiveness, and signs of social connection or isolation. Companions may also note changes in routine, visible concerns around the home entrance, or anything unusual that families may want to be aware of. Following each visit, loved ones receive a personalized update for added reassurance and peace of mind.
Just Checking In companions do not provide medical care, diagnoses, or clinical assessments. Our observations are intended to offer families supportive, non-medical wellness updates.
Memory Preservation
We help families preserve cherished memories through our unique “Question of the Week” videos. These casual, lighthearted recordings capture meaningful stories, personality, laughter, and everyday moments that families can treasure for years to come. Designed to feel relaxed and enjoyable — never formal or stressful — the conversations are simply a chance for loved ones to share memories, reflect on life, and connect in a natural and genuine way.
